A Study of Sulperazon in the Treatment of Bacterial Infections in the Neurosurgical Field

Abstract
This study evaluated the effectiveness of Sulperazon in the treatment of bacterial infections in 30 neurosurgical patients. They included 13 patients with CNS infection (5 of meningitis, 3 of ventriculitis, 5 of abscess), 15 patients with postsurgical wound infection(4 of scalp infection, 3 of Cruchfield tong infection, 8 of tracheostomy infection) and 2 patients with sepsis. By the degree of severity of infections, Sulperazon was administered variably in daily dose (2 to 4gm, BID) and duration (1 to 6 weeks).
There were clinically positive responses in 83%(25/30) of the Patients; 14 of 15 postsurgical wound infections (93%0, 10 of 13 CNS infections (77%), and one of two sepsis. Most of organisms isolated from the patients¢¥ culture were sensitive to Sulperazon therapy(77%).
No adverse clinical and laboratory reactions were reported during the study.
